Clare Hertel, Mark Bryant - Santa Fe Literary Festival

2022 -- This week's guests on REPORT FROM SANTA FE are Clare Hertel, co-founder of the Santa Fe Literary Festival, and Mark Byrant, chief curator of the Festival which will take place May 20–23, 2022.

A variety of bestselling, prizewinning authors headline the festival, discussing their work with readings and book signings that set the stage for inspired conversations. Notable figures, fiction and nonfiction authors, and journalists will engage in one-on-one onversations and thought-provoking discussions, presenting an opportunity to find out what inspires some of today’s most important writers.

Among the award-winning fiction authors are Margaret Atwood, John Grisham, Colson Whitehead, Sandra Cisneros, George RR Martin, Ashley C. Ford, Anne Hillerman, Craig Johnson, Phil Klay, Valeria Luiselli, Emily St. John Mandel, Doug Preston, Kristin Valdez Quade, and Don Winslow.

Some of the nonfiction authors include Bryan Curtis, Jon Krakauer, James McGrath Morris, Keith Recker, Hampton Sides, and Lawrence Wright.

The Festival also includes a culinary element. One series at the festival is called “Around the Table” and offers a rare opportunity to enjoy a fabulous meal while listening to some of today’s leading chefs and food writers. James Beard and NAACP Image award winner Bryant Terry presents a special two-course lunch featuring recipes from his cookbooks. He’ll talk about his work in food activism and his latest book Black Food. Also, Navajo chef and Native foods educator Freddie Bitsoie will offer a delicious meal with dishes prepared from his latest cookbook, New Native Kitchen.

There will also be explorations of tea and tequila with presentations on the quintessential British institution of afternoon tea and intimate tequila tastings with experts focusing on what makes a great tequila.
