This week's guest on REPORT FROM SANTA FE is Peter S. Beagle, author of novels, nonfiction, and screenplays. His best-known work is the best-selling "The Last Unicorn," a benchmark of contemporary mythic fantasy, voted one of the top five "All-Time Best Fantasy Novels." He has won several literary awards including a World Fantasy Award for Life Achievement in 2011.

Some of Peter S. Beagle’s other highly acclaimed works include “A Fine and Private Place,” and “Sleight of Hand.” “The Last Unicorn” is one of the true classics of fantasy, ranking with Tolkien's “The Hobbit,”  Ursula Le Guin's “Earthsea Trilogy,”  and Lewis Carroll's “Alice in Wonderland.” Beagle writes a shimmering prose-poetry, the voice of fairy tales and childhood.

Beagle's novels and stories have been translated into 16 languages worldwide, and his long and fascinating career has covered everything from journalism and stage adaptations, to songwriting and performances. He has given readings, lectures, and concerts of his own songs from coast to coast, and has written several screenplays, including Ralph Bakshi's animated film version of “The Lord of the Rings.”
